WEEK 1

June 11 – 14

Monday- General introduction and syllabus review, Introduction, 1st Reading & Response Assignment

Tuesday- Go OVER Course Calendar, Discuss Writing Expectations, Look over Essay 1 Assignment Sheet, Discuss purpose and value of a good “hook”, and talk about Drafting Process

Wednesday- Look at Norton’s Ch. 29 on Beginnings and Endings, Start work on Drafting of Essay 1, MLA part 1.

Thursday- Continue drafting process (independently) and Continue to look at use of MLA with practice exercises to work on.


WEEK 2

June 18 – 21

Monday- 2nd Reading & Response Assignment, Look at Norton’s Ch. 37 on Dialogue. Talk about Peer Review expectations and process. Go over MLA exercises from last week. Drafting Day

Tuesday- Peer Review Day – Review the Process. Expand and break in to group discussions afterwards. Begin working on alterations to your paper.

Wednesday- Go over Essay 1 checklist for submission, Norton’s Ch. 22 – Generating Ideas and Texts, Practice exercises.

 Rough Draft copy of Essay 1 submitted to Moodle by 11:59 PM (Wednesday, June 20)

Thursday- Revision Day, practice looking at different approaches, review Essay 1 checklist

Final Draft of Essay 1 submitted to Moodle by 11:59 PM (Sunday, June 23rd)


WEEK 3

June 25 – 28

Monday- 3rd Reading & Response Assignment, Look at Norton’s Ch. 30 – Guiding the Reader

Tuesday- Reflection on Essay 1 – write up, Look at Norton’s Ch. 21 & 22 – Writing as Inquiry and Collaborating

Wednesday- Look over Essay 2 Assignment Sheet, Look at Norton’s Ch. 23 – Drafting

Thursday- Look at Norton’s Ch. 24 – Assessing your own writing. Use Essay 1 as example to work on. Take time to dig into Essay 2 analysis readings.


WEEK 4

July 2 – 3, 5

Monday- 4th Reading & Response Assignment, Look at Norton’s Ch. 25 & 26- Getting Response and Revising and Proofing and Editing. Drafting Day

Tuesday- Peer Review Day, Expand and break in to group discussions afterwards. Begin working on alterations to your paper. Give out and go over Essay 2 Checklist, Look at Norton’s Ch. 31- Analyzing Cause and Effect

 Rough Draft copy of Essay 2 submitted to Moodle by 11:59 PM (Tuesday, July 3rd)

Wednesday- FOURTH OF JULY HOLIDAY, NO CLASS

Thursday- Revision Day, practice looking at different approaches, review Essay 2 checklist, Look at Norton’s Ch. 34- Comparing and Contrasting

Final Draft of Essay 2 submitted to Moodle by 11:59 PM (Sunday, July 8)


WEEK 5

July 9 – 12 

Monday- 5th Reading & Response Assignment, Look at Norton’s Ch. 35- Describing

Tuesday- Look at Norton’s Ch. 40- Reading Strategies, Reflection on Essay 2 – write up. Drafting Day

Wednesday- Peer Review Day, Expand and break in to group discussions afterwards. Begin working on alterations to your paper.

Thursday- Applied MLA practice,

WEEK 6

July 16 – 19

Monday: Revision Day, practice looking at different approaches, review Essay 3 Checklist

Tuesday: TBD

Final Draft of Essay 3 submitted to Moodle by 11:59 PM (Tuesday, July 17)

Wednesday: Reflection on Essay 3 – write up.
